7 TIPS FOR THE WINTER

USEFUL TIPS FOR WINTER 
To enable you to reach your destination safely on the Winter bike to work Day or more generally in the cold season, we have put together seven useful tips for you:  

1. LIGHTS  
Especially important in the dark and often wet season: a functioning and sufficiently bright light, as well as additional reflectors, ensure that you are visible. 

2. CLOTHING  
As the saying goes: there’s no bad weather, just bad clothing. Wear wind- and rain-proof jackets and trousers to give you the best possible protection from the cold. 
 
3. TYRES  
Tyres with a special rubber compound suitable for winter and a good profile provide a good grip on slippery roads. Tyres with spikes are the best choice when there’s lots of snow and ice. 
 
4. ATTENTIVENESS  
It’s perfectly normal that you need a little more time to bike to work in winter than in summer. Be alert, anticipate, and keep a greater distance from other road users.
 
5. RIDING TECHNIQUE  
In solid snow cover and slippery conditions you should not pedal or brake on bends. If you can’t avoid breaking, do this early and progressively. On snow and ice the front wheel brake should always be applied cautiously, especially with tyres without spikes. If the rear wheel blocks when braking, this indicates slippage.

6. SPLASH GUARD 
High splashing (salt)water attacks your bike. Protect it with a wide and deep-drawn mudguard. Furthermore, a splash protection cloth on the front wheel shields the bottom bracket, chain and your shoes from dirty water. 

7. BIKE CARE  
Clean your bike regularly and then treat it with hard wax or apply an anti-corrosion product. As winter ends give the bike a thorough clean and make sure that all salt is removed.
